With the winter finally behind us (ignore the rain!) and the long summer days stretching out ahead, it's the perfect time to capture those vibrant sunsets from some wildly creative angles, and with the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom both available with Smart Controllers, your creative vision couldn't be brighter.
The abilities of drones to get through tight spots as well soar through the open skies mean the possibilities can be endless so we’ve chosen some of our favourite examples of creative aerial photography to spark your imagination.
Movers and Shakers
Taken face-down with a Mavic drone this image captures the kind of exhilarating shots you can get with aerial photography, and with the ultra-fast live streaming to your iPhone or Smart Controller, getting time-sensitive action-shots like this is a breeze.
Think about how your movement affects your environment, and how that could look from above, such as how the colours and shapes change to create something that only a drone can capture.
If parasailing with over the ocean wasn’t amazing enough, being able to capture it on camera makes it an unforgettable experience. With features like Active Track on the Mavic 2 Zoom, the days of blurry action shots are over, add colour to your shot and you have the perfect combination. The use of a drone to get the fantastic height and angles for this shot work really well to give the parasailer and perspective against the vastness of the ocean.
Think about how you can use the drone to put smaller subjects in perspective, getting as high as possible to capture how they relate to their backdrop.
Back to Nature
Now that summer is here and the countryside is filled with rich greenery and vibrant colours, there’s no better time to take that road trip and capture nature from above. This misty shot taken face-down shows the road being enveloped by a leafy forest, and with its dynamic curves through trees only visible from above, the use of a drone has enabled the photographer to capture its best angle and composition.
Think how you can work with the seasons to bring texture and colour into your shot, embrace the colours and get back to nature.
There’s something about the bright lights of a city against the natural backdrop of a sunset but getting the right angle while capturing the striking colours can be tricky. Luckily with a drone you don’t have to move into a high-rise luxury apartment to get those high up shots anymore, and with the 10-bit Dlog-M colour profile of the Mavic 2 Pro drone you can retain the details capturing the subtlest gradations at sunset or sunrise as well as the sparkling city lights.
Get creative: Going sunset hunting? Think how you can frame your shot with the architecture and existing elements in the space to create silhouettes and add texture to your shot.
Drone photography and videography has come on leaps and bounds in recent years and with DJI’s Mavic and Phantom series drones accepting lens filters you can even control the aperture and exposure giving shots that would previously only be possible with a DSLR. But with the ease of use and popularity comes rules and regulations, so whether you go out into the sticks or embrace the city, make sure you stick to the drone code, see dronesafe.uk and respond to any safety alerts from your drone.
