You’ll have a Jessops Trainer on hand to guide you through the best settings to use in order to photograph these amazing animals, and be joined by an expert from the ORCA team as they help you spot and identify a host of life, from marine mammals to sea birds. Not only this, but our sightseeing will also help to support ORCA’s vital citizen science programme, helping to protect marine life in UK & European waters.
The trip will consist of a three day, two night mini-cruise across the Bay of Biscay onboard Brittany Ferries flagship, Pont-Aven.
● We’ll start at Portsmouth Port
with a classroom based session to introduce the experience, before boarding the ship. Departure is just before sunset and we will enjoy an evening sail across the English Channel
● Day two gives us wildlife-spotting opportunities and will start early with a sunrise briefing on the top deck. This will be followed by plenty of wildlife searching and photographic practise as we spend the day heading over the deeper waters of the Bay of Biscay towards Spain, keeping an eye out for everything from huge fin whales to pods of common dolphin. We land briefly in the city of Santander before another sunset sail, turning back to head towards Plymouth. This evening will be spent relaxing and showing the group your photos from the day, as well as discussing the different wildlife seen during the trip.
● Day three will start with another early rise, where we’ll travel over the shallower waters of the northern Bay, through the beautiful islands on the west coast of France and their iconic lighthouses. Here you’ll hopefully see more species including minke whales, common dolphins and harbour porpoises… potentially even a seal or two, before finally docking into Plymouth
later that afternoon.
Your accommodation is provided throughout your stay, alongside all photographic tuition and ORCA expert wildlife watching guides.
Please note that we ask all attendees to take out their own travel insurance to cover themselves while on this photographic break.
